Ms. Shapiro is a graduate of the University of Miami (B.A., 1972), the University of Miami School of Law (J.D., 1990), and Pine Manor College (LittD., 2018), where she received an Honorary Doctorate of Law and Letters. Ms. Shapiro established her own practice between 1994-2019 and then decided to join The Florida Probate & Family Law Firm in 2019 as the Chair of the Family Law department.
Ms. Shapiro has extensive litigation experience in child and family law, with particular emphasis in divorce, child custody, domestic violence, matrimonial law, post dissolution, collaborative law, and grandparent visitation rights. Ms. Shapiro is A-V rated by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest ranking awarded to an attorney. Additionally, Ms. Shapiro has been listed in Super Lawyers for numerous years and listed in The South Florida Legal Guide for her distinguished professional service.
A longtime resident of Miami, Ms. Shapiro has served on the board of numerous community organizations, including sitting as the Chair of the City of Miami Community Relations Board from 2003-2006 and as Chair of the City of Miami Civilian Investigative Panel from 2007 to 2009.
She served on the Panel which is charged with the responsibility of investigating police misconduct. Additionally, Ms. Shapiro is a founding member of the Collaborative Family Law Institute, a Miami-Dade based non-profit association dedicated to educating the public about the benefits of a family-focused alternative to litigated divorce.
Since becoming a member of the Florida Bar in 1991, Ms. Shapiro has managed several significant representations. Her success includes having both temporary and permanent alimony awards set aside, setting aside prenuptial agreements on the grounds of being both unconscionable and coerced and grandparent custody awards where previously no visitation was awarded and demonstrable harm had come to the child.
